Yesterday, Canning Congo, in collaboration with Lviro Primate Sanctuary as well as Bonobos help, rescued an adult chimpanzee who was illegally kept in captivity for 25 years family in Grandma, Ituri

National Police and Ministry of the Environment helped groups save chimpanzee named Tarzan who was found chained to the engine block of a truck previously this year one of the researchers at Canned Congo.

Tarzan was a baby when the family bought him in the 1990s. His young life was used as a base for tourists. take a selfie with a photo for $ 10. As he got older and more aggressive, the family shockingly tried to calm Tarzan down by giving him alcohol and cigarettes, which he became addicted to. Disgusting!

Then, deemed “useless,” the tortured animal was left in the mud, chained to a half-built structure with an inscription on the wall: “Beware of Tarzan, the fierce beast.”

Tarzan, who is currently heading to Goma and then to Bukavu, where he will be placed in the primate sanctuary of Lviro, previously lived in the area for so long that everyone knew him, and he became a kind of “mascot” for the area. During negotiations to save Tarzan, which lasted about two days, the entire area arrived in the crowd, refusing to allow Tarzan to be taken away. For some reason, they believed that they loved him, although it was clear that they did not, allowing him to suffer for so long.

Conserv Congo quickly assembled its team of negotiators, and after 48 hours Tarzan was finally released into the organization.

“You must understand, this is the first time Congo Conservatory saved chimpanzees of this age and size. During the rescue, we had fear and excitement at the same time, but in the end we saved this poor soul, ”said WAN Adams Kassinga, founding director of Conserv Congo. “Although he has lived half his life in chains, he can now be free and wild with his fellows in the sanctuary.”

Ituri, the province from which he was rescued, has been under siege for a week now, and the war is still going on. Fortunately, the respective teams of veterinarians, investigators, police and government inspectors were still able to continue rescuing Tarzan.

“I’m just worried about his future because of the trauma he suffered and the many substances he uses. However, we know the shrine where he is going and they will do their best to correct the mistake of his past, ”continued Kassinga. “One thing is for sure: deep down, Tarzan is grateful to us for his freedom and life. There is no greater reward in our work! “

Despite the relief that Tarzan was rescued, countless other chimpanzees continue to suffer from wildlife traffickers throughout Africa.
