Its body and wing, completely pierced by an arrow, this scrub-stone curlew, a bird native to Australia, was shot and left for dead by a twisted man (or people) near Airlie Beach in Queensland, on the country’s northeastern coast.
Don’t worry – as bad as his injuries were, the arrow was successfully removed and this bird is now recovering thanks to the help of a local rescue team.
What’s more, PETA Australia offers a reward of up to $ 5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this heinous act of atrocity.
This is not an isolated incident.
Because animals cannot report abuse and cannot always do enough to fight back, they are often used as “hands-on” victims by abusive people. Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who abuse animals often continue to commit violent acts against their fellows. As long as the perpetrators of such crimes remain at large, other animals, including humans, may also be at risk.
Remember: it’s not just birds, and it’s not just in other countries.
Acts of senseless cruelty, like what happened to this curlew, are taking place right here in the United States against the very dogs and cats we live with in our homes:
Always report cruelty when you see it–never be silent!
