Unsurprisingly, the Barred family, who run Florida’s roadside zoo, have never paid attention to the well-being of elephants. When the animals were on their way, Lu’s family did not provide adequate veterinary care. a big bump on the face with bloody dischargeand they kept elephants like her on short chains for 24 hours a day! Such treatment of elephants is a pernicious form of arrogance, discrimination based solely on belonging to a species.
Elephants are sensitive, highly intelligent animals that need space to roam, feed, communicate and play on their own terms. Those who are used in circuses and in direct meetings are deprived of the opportunity to satisfy their instinctive needs and desires. They are taught abusive methods of coercion into submission. In infancy, they are chained until their spirit breaks. They are then stabbed and struck with hooks – a sharp weapon resembling a fireplace poker – and stunned with a stun gun until they learn to “behave.”
Please convince the Barred family to give Lou, Carol and Patty the rest and relaxation they deserve by sending them into retirement at an accredited refuge.
