San Jose, California. – As part of PETA’s Become a Vegan for the Earth Campaign, the local sandwich chain Ike’s love and sandwiches will present a new vegan sandwich on Thursday: earth angel, a hearty shot without turkey meat, dairy-free mozzarella, mushrooms, cabbage and Hayk’s iconic “Dirty Secret” sauce on Dutch bread. The limited edition sandwich will be available in 60 Ike stores for one week, with a portion of the proceeds going to support PETA’s animal care work.
“Ike’s sandwich with an earthly angel is heavenly a way to save animal lives, save water and reduce carbon emissions, ”says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages everyone to be Power of nature for the planet if there is vegan food on Earth Day and every day. “
Livestock is depleting fresh water supplies; pollutes groundwater, lakes and rivers; and is a leading cause of ocean dead zones, species extinction and habitat destruction – and by some estimates it produces more greenhouse gas emissions than all of the world’s transportation systems combined.
More than 50 restaurants are participating in the PETA campaign, including Boss ChicknBeer in Cleveland; Village Restaurant in Lichfield, Connecticut; Kale My Name in Chicago; Barberitos in Asheville, North Carolina; Ben’s Chili Bowl in Washington DC; Inspired Traction in Gainesville, Virginia; Karma Baker in Westlake Village, California; Juicy Kitchen in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Curbside Arlo in Austin, Texas.
PETA – whose motto, among other things, is that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes arrogance, a worldview based on human superiority – will distribute free sandwiches with an earth angel at the Ike location in Las Vegas on Day Earth.
