A fierce tsunami in Japan, caused by one of the largest earthquakes on record, swept several miles inland and killed hundreds of people and countless animals. PETA Asia-Pacific is sending staff to some of the worst-hit areas on the east coast to provide relief. You can help animals in case of natural disasters by making a donation to the PETA Animal Relief Fund.
The key to protecting ourselves and our companion animals in any disaster is in preparation. PETA offers animal carers advice on how to prepare for any type of natural disaster that may arise. Tips include preparing an emergency kit for animals, keeping all tags and animal records up-to-date, and having window stickers in obvious places on front and rear doors to alert emergency responders of the presence of animals in the home.
We will provide you with additional information on PETA’s Asia Pacific rescue operations in Japan when it becomes available.
