PETA Calls Feds To Investigate Yellowstone Bear World

We urge the agency to investigate Yellowstone Bear World (YBW) – A roadside zoo in Idaho that supplied exploited bear cubs used at the event – for flagrant violations of the Federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA). We have also alerted Utah Department of Wildlife officials to our concerns as Utah law requires animals in the state to be handled in accordance with USDA guidelines.
What the cubs have gone through
AWA prohibits giving animals “unnecessary discomfort”, but the “Yellowstone Bear World” for four days showed motherless cubs in a box, which, despite the fact that it was on public display, lacked a bowl of water, bedding, soft substrate or some kind of shelter or quiet refuge. from the cacophony of the crowd.
Spectator noise is stressful in itself, but it can also interfere with the cubs’ sleep, further compromising their physical and psychological health. One calf even developed a thinner coat, which can be caused by parasites or malnutrition, and aggravated by stress.
PETA believes this calf was in poor health enough to be examined by a veterinarian.
We do not use animals for entertainment
These cubs should still sleep comfortably under the supervision of their mothers. Authorities should hold YBW accountable for using these tortured cubs as an attraction, regardless of their needs.
Each year, YBW rears the pups and separates them from their mothers at just a few weeks of age so that the animals can be used at events. In nature, cubs stay with their mothers for at least two years.
When the cubs grew too large for public contact, YBW sent them to other roadside zoos or to wholesale dealers of exotic animals, including the notorious “Joe Exotic” from King of tigers a shame. Over the past decade, YBW has sent at least 65 cubs and 19 adult bears to Gregg Woody, an Illinois broker known to send bears to slaughter.
The American West Heritage Center in Wellsville, Utah conducted a photographic op “Yellowstone Bear World,” which used bears as selfie props, so PETA teamed up with the Utah Animal Rights Coalition to protest the event.
What can you do for animals
Vote with your feet: Stay away from roadside zoos and other seedy places that encourage dangerous contact with wildlife. If animals are exploited at the event, don’t support it… Tell your friends, family, and social media followers not to do this either.
