Angels – On five buses running through Santa Monica, and on a billboard just outside the Los Angeles clam-on-menu diner, PETA’s new ad carries a vegan message from octopuses to local diners: “Hands off!”
The group notes that diners can easily select vegan options at Sushi House in Los Angeles and that fish-free proteins such as Gardein vegan fish fillets and Good Catch vegan tuna are the latest in healthy and humane nutrition and are nearly in every grocery store.
“With a mini-brain in each tentacle, octopuses are as smart as possible and they are so sensitive that they can taste whatever they touch,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. PETA Ads are a reminder that vegan products always within reach, even if you don’t have eight hands! “
With their high intelligence, octopuses, known for their ability to caress and kiss, can get bored, open cans, communicate with each other using patterns and colors, and use tools. Those who were in captivity even tried to escape and poured water on their captors. But because of arrogance – the belief that other species are inferior to our own – billions of octopuses and other invertebrates are killed every year for food. Some shellfish are even eaten alive.
The billboard is located at 12013 W. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles.
PETA, whose motto is partly “Animals are not ours to eat,” offers a free vegan starter kit full of recipes, tips and more. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
