Madison, Wisconsin. – Tomorrow, a PETA representative will attend the virtual annual meeting of Kraft Heinz – the parent company of local Oscar Mayer – to urge executives to offer exclusively vegan hot dogs instead of carcinogenic tubes made from shredded chicken, cow and pork. “The key to saving animals, protecting human health and increasing the company’s bottom line lies in delicious vegetable dogs,” says Daniel Katz, PETA’s director of campaigns. “With recent investments in vegan yogurt, protein bars and more, Kraft is well positioned to make the transition and lead the meat industry towards a vegan future.”
In the meat industry, workers chop off pigs’ tails, cut their teeth with pliers, and castrate males – all without painkillers, while chickens and turkeys are stuffed into filthy barns and bred to grow unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs are often crippled under the weight. In slaughterhouses, animals are hung upside down and their throats are cut.
PETA acquired shares in Kraft Heinz last year to nudge the company to make the iconic Wienermobile vegan by offering only its own lean dogs so the Wienermobile can produce everything its planned stops are praise, not protests from PETA.
