A just-released federal report obtained by PETA reveals that the University of Colorado – Boulder has received an Official Warning from the US Department of Agriculture for its violations of federal animal welfare regulations. The warning won’t undo the trauma and agony suffered by voles in CU-Boulder’s laboratories, where two prairie voles died of thirst when their water bottle malfunctioned and no one noticed and a meadow vole strangled to death after their head became trapped between implements in the vole’s cage — but it shows CU-Boulder should get out of the dirty, bloody animal experimentation business and redirect its resources toward modern, non-animal research methodologies that will actually help humans.
