Tell Millennium Hotels and Resorts to stop sponsoring Deadly Iditarod

For the Iditarod, dogs are forced to run roughly 1,000 miles, pulling a heavy sled in some of the most grueling conditions on Earth. Up to half of those who start don’t finishleaving others to shoulder an even heavier burden. In the 2021 race, nearly 200 dogs left the track. One musher admitted that she retired after the dogs she forced to run suffered severe diarrhea, severe vomiting and aspiration pneumonia, the leading cause of death in dogs at Iditarod. Two dogs had to be connected to the IVs.

A PETA witness worked in two kennels owned by former Iditarod champions and found widespread neglect and suffering. The dogs were denied veterinary care due to painful injuries, they were constantly kept on chains next to dilapidated crates and plastic barrels in severe frost and biting winds, and forced to run even when they were exhausted and dehydrated. When a team of dogs broke out of the sleigh, one dog was even dragged to death.

In the history of the race, more than 150 dogs have died, not counting those who died languishing on a short chain in the offseason, or were killed because they did not have enough speed or stamina to pass the assessment.

Tell Millennium Hotels and Resorts, whose lakeside hotel in Anchorage still supports the race to the death, to cut ties now.
