Montreal – Tomorrow, PETA activists will surround the Urban Outfitters store on Saint-Catherine Street and block the entrance as part of the group’s international campaign demanding that all Urban Outfitters, Inc. brands, including Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters, stop. sale of alpaca wool and everything else obtained from animals. The protesters will hold signs with the frightened faces of the exploited animals and signs that read “The face of fashion is fear.”
When: Saturday 17 April 12:00
Where: Urban Outfitters, 1246 Saint-Catherine St. W., Montreal
PETA launched an international campaign after Anthropologie was involved in PETA’s first-of-its-kind alpaca investigation, in which it was revealed that workers on a farm in Peru were tying crying alpacas to a hanger, pulling them so hard by the legs that they nearly come out of it. their eye sockets, and left them with bloody wounds from rough haircuts. The mutilated animals spat and vomited from fear.
“The Urban Outfitters brands want to attract open and progressive youth, but they are falling short of selling wool from animals that are beaten, slaughtered and killed in the process,” said PETA executive vice president Tracy. Reiman. “Anything that is forcibly taken from an animal is a product of fear, and PETA is pushing Urban Outfitters to live up to its consumer commitment to sustainability and ethics by urging the company to only sell vegan materials, which would be easy to do because they are already stocking it.”
PETA and its affiliates have produced dozens of videos showing workers beating, kicking and maiming delicate sheep for their wool; leave sensitive goats with bloody gaping wounds during operations with mohair and cashmere; burn, electroshock, beat and slaughter cows on the skin; pull out feathers from ducks and geese by a handful of down; and boil the silkworm alive to get silk.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority.
