Mississauga, Ontario – BUT Certificate of Appreciation is on its way from PETA to Walmart Canada to stop selling glue traps for rodents. This step will prevent countless animals from ripping apart their flesh, breaking bones, and even trying to gnaw off their own limbs in an attempt to escape the cunning devices.

“By prohibiting nasty glue traps, Walmart Canada is proving it loves small animals,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. PETA encourages shoppers to speak out loud if they see a store selling glue traps and encourages them to follow Walmart Canada’s benevolent example.

This may take days for animals trapped in glue traps and died from exhaustion, injury, dehydration, suffocation or blood loss. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns against the use of glue traps because trapped animals continue to excrete urine and feces, posing a risk to human health. Glue traps also do not eliminate the source of the problem: if the holes are not blocked and the attractants are not removed, new animals will simply come to the place of those killed.

Dozens of retailers refuse to sell glue traps, and hundreds of companies and institutions, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs, Public storage, U-haul, and more than 100 airports have banned their use. PETA is currently asking the public to urge Ace Hardware and 99 Cents Only stores to follow suit.

Walmart Canada will receive a framed certificate and a box of delicious vegan chocolates.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to abuse them in any way”, opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority, and offers tips on humane rodent control on its website. … For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram
